Repetitive Behavior Questionnaire RBQ-20

The RBQ-2A Adult Repetitive Behavior Questionnaire test is a screening tool for autism that can be used with adults. This online test for RBQ-2A consists of 20 statements and you can also download the PDF version. The RBQ-2A measures restricted and repetitive behaviors such as routines and rituals, repetitive motor behaviors, sensory interests, and repetitive actions with objects. It is suitable for adults and only accessible to those with sufficient cognitive resources and verbal ability. 

This was created by Dr Sarah Barrett for her PhD at Cardiff University with Prof Sue Leekam and Dr Catherine Jones, Cardiff University.

Scoring 
  • Scoring range: 20–60
  • Threshold score: 26
    • 36 average autistic score
    • 25 non-autistic score

Scores can also be summarized into four factors (when measuring repetitiveness on a scale of 1-3) Scores are distributed as follows: 

Factor 1 – Repetitive Motor Movements. Includes items: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Factor 2 – Rigidity/Adherence to Routine. Includes items: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19

Factor 3 – Preoccupation with Restricted Patterns of Interest. Includes items: 1, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 17 

Factor 4 – Unusual Sensory Interest. Includes items: 8, 9, 10, 18.
